Community Orchard Workday – March 24 2012

Lawrence Community Orchard work day : POSTPONED

UPDATE:

Our much needed but long soaking rainfall this past week has saturated the soil.    There will not be enough time for it to dry before Saturday.

We will definitely plan on a workday next Saturday and another notice will come out about that event.

Between Sunday and next weekend we are hoping to get some small tasks completed at the site.  If you are available during the week (late afternoon), please let us know so that we can contact you.      There is a lot of work to be done and any and all help is needed and is greatly appreciated!

################################################

Thanks to the 25 volunteers who came out last Saturday!  It was a lot of fun, new friends were made, and we got a lot of good work done.

This Saturday the 24th come help remove sod and prepare planting holes for over 60 trees and shrubs! Many hands make light work. Bring your friends and family for a fun day helping to create this community orchard.

If you have them, please bring shovels and work gloves (the more the merrier). Also, be sure to bring a snack. Refreshments provided. Feel free to stay for as short or as long a time as you wish.

March 2012 - Preparing the Community Orchard

The orchard is located along Burroughs Creek Trail off of Garfield st. Below is a link to the Google map. On the map, a drainage ditch is incorrectly labeled as Garfield, Garfield is actually to the south. Note the green arrow:  http://maps.google.com/maps?q=38.959309,-95.22636&ll=38.959511,-95.226228&spn=0.001599,0.002411&num=1&t=h&z=19

Please do not park on Garfield st. It is a narrow street with many driveways and parking there would inconvenience the neighbors.   Instead, please park along Delaware or at the playground at 15th and Burroughs Creek.  Or better yet, ride a bike or walk!
